Explosions near Qasem Soleimani’s Grave in Iran: 103 Dead, 141 Injured

In Iran, at least 103 people were killed in explosions near the grave of General Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a US air strike in January 2020 at the Baghdad airport, according to Iranian media.

People had gathered at Soleimani’s tomb in the Saheb al-Zaman Mosque in Kerman to commemorate his death.

At least 141 people were injured in the explosions. Some of them are in critical condition, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA.

Referring to informed sources, “Tasnim” agency reports that “two bags with bombs” exploded at the scene of the event, which were detonated remotely.

The explosions happened 10 minutes apart.

The deputy governor of Kerman announced that the incident was a terrorist attack.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Soleimani was the commander of the Quds Force, an elite unit of Iran’s armed forces. He was killed by a US drone strike near Baghdad airport.

He coordinated the activities of armed units loyal to Iran in Iraq and other countries, including their operations against the Islamic State group.
