Discover the Charm and Activities of Governors Island in New York City

As its name implies, Governors Island is a small 172-acre island in the center of New York City Harbor, just over a half-mile away from Lower Manhattan.

The first reference that exists about the island is from 1624, when the colonists of the Dutch West India Company decided to set up camp on the island, which at that time was smaller.

Governors Island offers a wide variety of attractions year-round, but many prefer to visit in the spring and summer months.

One of the seasonal activities that you can enjoy with your family is ‘FAD MARKET’, where you can purchase products made by more than 40 creators, designers, artists and small emerging businesses in the city.

FAD MARKET operates the third weekend of each month, from 11 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon.

The next available dates are Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17.

And Saturday, October 21 and Sunday, October 22.

“Fall in love with FAD Market on @Gov_Island this weekend! We’re tiptoeing into fall, but Mother Nature is still delivering summer vibes. The forecast looks ideal for visiting Governors Island and joining FAD Market on King Ave this weekend week. Come meet more than 40 creators! ⛴”, reads a message on social networks from @Gov_Island.

Governors Island also offers art attractions on the third Saturday of every month, through the end of October, completely free. To learn more about these Saturday activities, and others that take place during the week, visit the website govisland.com
