Darius Rucker Arrested on Drug Offenses
Celebrity Singer Caught with Marijuana and Psychedelic Pills
Darius Rucker, renowned singer and former frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, was allegedly caught with marijuana and psychedelic pills prior to his arrest in Tennessee on Thursday. The news of the singer’s arrest has shocked fans and the music industry.
TMZ Report Reveals Timeframe
In a recent report, TMZ stated that Darius Rucker was actually in possession of the substances almost a year ago on Feb. 19, 2023. The renowned celebrity finally turned himself in on Thursday, triggering an arrest that has captured media attention.
Arrest Affidavit and Police Encounter
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by media outlets, police in Franklin, Tennessee pulled Rucker over last February for expired tags on his car. The officers claim to have noticed the distinct smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle, to which Rucker denied smoking that night.
Alleged Ownership of Marijuana and Pills
During the encounter, Rucker allegedly admitted, however, to smoking in his car the day before. The police conducted a search and discovered a THC pen, possibly containing marijuana, and 14 unmarked purple pills. Rucker stated that his girlfriend, Summer, had given him the pills.
Delayed Arrest and Subsequent Warrant
The officers released Rucker without charging him at the scene, pending identification of the pills – a standard procedure for such cases. It wasn’t until December 2023, almost a year later, that a warrant for his arrest was issued. This was due to the identification post-testing, confirming the pills to be psilocin, a Schedule I controlled substance.
Statement from the Franklin PD
In response to the incident, a spokesperson from the Franklin Police Department stated, “This case is still active, and any documents related to the case are not public record at this time. However, we can confirm that Mr. Rucker was pulled over during a routine traffic stop. He was released at the scene and turned himself in yesterday, which is routine procedure for this type of offense.”
Charges and Bond
Following his arrest, Darius Rucker was charged with two counts of simple possession and casual exchange of a controlled substance, as well as one count of violating the state’s vehicle registration law. He has been released on a $10,500 bond.
Legal Representation and Cooperation
As media outlets sought clarification on the situation, Rucker’s lawyer released a statement confirming his client’s complete cooperation with the authorities. The lawyer stated, “Darius Rucker is fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges.”
