Crane debris falls into building in Midtown

Several pieces of a crane installed in a building in Midtown fell to the void causing alarm in the area.

The incident occurred in a building under construction located at West 57th Street and Sixth Avenue and apparently several pieces of the crane came off the frame.

No injuries were reported, but the FDNY said they responded to reports of debris falling from a building located at 111 West 57th Street.

“There is no collapse of a crane,” wrote the fire department in a message on social networks. “Debris fell. There are no injuries at this time,” the message added.

Firefighters reported that there were more than 100 elements of the corps and 30 units at the scene.

The police for their part also posted a message on social networks in which they warned of the incident and asked to avoid going through the area.

The independent journalist Keith Olbermann also posted a message on Twitter with images of the unstable crane and where he notes that two long pieces of debris are detached from it. The building is 85 stories, adds Olbermann.
