Covid-19 Vaccine Found, These 2 Are the Strongest Candidates?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The race to find the Covid-19 vaccine continues. According to Soumya Swaninathan, chief scientist at the World Health Organization, there are two leading vaccine candidates to return to normal life.

There are at least two companies in the forefront in making vaccines. Namely, a British pharmaceutical company, AstraZeneca in collaboration with the Universities of Oxford and Moderna.

“Of course in terms of how advanced (the vaccine) is, the stage where they are, they are the main candidates. So maybe they (Astra and Moderna) will get fairly early results,” Swaminathan said at a press conference as quoted by Reuters. Monday (6/29/2020).

“We know that the Moderna vaccine will also go into phase three clinical trials, perhaps starting in mid-July, and so that vaccine candidates are not far behind,” Swaminathan said.

“But I think AstraZeneca certainly has a more global scope right now in terms of where they conduct and plan their vaccine trials,” he continued.

Swaminathan also revealed that the WHO was in talks with several Chinese manufacturers, including Sinovac about potential vaccines. He also said that he was studying the vaccine with Indian researchers.
