NOS news

During excavations in the home of Nazi leader Hermann Göring, the remains of several people were found, including those of infants. All the bodies were missing hands and feet.

The discovery was made by a German-Polish team at the former Nazi headquarters Wolfsschanze in a forest in northeastern Poland. One of the researchers says he is “absolutely shocked”.

The team has been doing research in Wolfsschanze for a long time and they come across special things regularly. Containers, tools and other personal items have already been found.

A child’s body

It was believed that Göring’s house had already been completely searched, but when a member of the team found traces of a wooden floor and started digging, water pipes were soon discovered. About four inches below the ground lay a piece of skull.

The police were called, but the officers found no trace of a recent crime. That’s why the research team was given permission to dig further. In the end, five bodies were found, probably belonging to a family. There are three adults, a teenager and a baby. It is not yet clear how and when they were buried there.

The researchers say in a video that the dead may have been buried when the Nazi headquarters had already been built. “Those who broke the water pipes should have found the bodies in a different way.” It is possible that Göring himself knew about the deaths.

No clothes

The investigation by the Polish Public Prosecution Service is still ongoing and the results are not yet known. The research team does not want to say with certainty that the five were victims of the Nazis.

“It could also be that the bodies were not dumped after the Second World War. It may be a mass murder that has nothing to do with the Nazis.

No remains of clothing or jewelry were found during the excavation. That could mean that the bodies were buried naked.

It is not clear why the bodies no longer have hands and feet. The body parts appear to have been cut down, but the bones may have melted over the years, the researchers say.

Reichsmarschall

Not only did Hermann Göring stay at the Nazi headquarters Wolfsschanze; Adolf Hitler spent a large part of World War II there as well. The headquarters had several bunkers and buildings in a heavily wooded area. This made the place difficult to attack.

But the situation was almost fatal for Hitler when he was attacked at the base in the summer of 1944, but suffered only minor injuries.
