complaints can not put sales in Union Square

Ulysses has been selling his crafts in Union Square for two years.

“We work with stones, macrame, precious stones, all handmade, artisanal,” explained Ulysses.

Today, however, Ulises is obliged to put his post outside the square, in the surrounding streets, and he says that it is no longer the same.

“There we had a lot of visibility, they saw us, and people were used to it, not here, no one can see here,” added Ulysses.

Ulysses and his fellow artisans have received a transfer order from the Parks department.

The order indicates that on the days that the farmers market is in the square … they cannot be there. But the spaces are limited and the street vendors many. They can only be located where there is a medallion mark on the floor.

“They are not respecting our space, our artist space … people are already used to seeing the joy, the colors, the works, the paintings, all very beautiful and they take us out of there and scatter us a little here and there. a little over there, “Ulysses said.

Kelly has been a lifelong artisan and has been selling here for over three years. Just a few weeks after moving his position to the street, he is already noticing the drop in sales.

Kelly.

“An example that we went home with about 300, now you can go home with 20 depends on your craft that you sell,” Kelly said.

She says that by not being next to the agricultural market within the park, which has a high influx of people, sales opportunities are lost. He complains that the city did not even explain why they had to relocate.

“It was like that, we arrived and ‘they can no longer be put here’. And it’s like ‘what do we do?’ and then we get settled in and a lot of people also get stressed because there is no room and that’s how we are, “added Kelly.

“It is very sad and painful to see a situation like those that instead of being supported as an artist, you are not being recriminated,” added Ulysses.

The group of street vendors has already sent a request to the city asking to return to their original places, but they have not received a response yet.
