The operational momentum that Russian forces had previously gained through the concentration of combat units and firepower has been nullified, according to intelligence.

The Ukrainian military managed to carry out successful counter-offensive operations in the city of Severodonetsk in the Luhansk region. About it informs The Ministry of Defense of Great Britain, citing its intelligence data on Sunday, 5th Yin.

“Over the past 24 hours, Ukrainian forces launched counterattacks in disputed Severodonetsk in eastern Ukraine. This canceled out the operational momentum that Russian forces had previously gained through the concentration of combat units and firepower,” the report said.

It is indicated that the Russian forces involved in the area include personnel mobilized by the occupiers from the so-called “LPR”. These troops are poorly equipped and trained and lack heavy equipment compared to regular Russian units.

The use of such proxy infantry for city clearing operations is a traditional tactic of the aggressor country, previously used in Syria. There, Russia deployed the 5th Corps of the Syrian army to attack urban areas.

“This approach probably indicates a desire to limit the losses suffered by regular Russian forces,” the British Ministry of Defense said.

Recall that as of June 1, the occupiers captured 80% of Severodonetsk. But in the following days, the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to inflict strong blows on the enemy and recaptured half of the city.

On the eve of the head of the Luhansk region Sergei Gaidai said that now the Russian army is “abandoning all its reserves” on the capture of Severodonetsk.
