Botass wins the Italian “Grand Prix” sprint qualification

In his fastest lap, Botass completed the 5,793-kilometer-long Monza track in one minute and 19,555 seconds. Next to him will be Mercedes co-driver Lewis Hamilton, who lost 0.096 seconds. Both pilots will no longer be members of the team next season.

The third best result on the not very successful track was shown by the Dutch driver of the Red Bull team Max Verstapen, who was 0.966 seconds behind Botas. Shortly after him, the two McLaren drivers Lendo Norris and Daniel Richtero were six thousandths apart.

The sixth result was shown by Pierre Gasley (“AlphaTauri”), but from the fourth row both Ferrari drivers Carlos Saints Junior and Charles Leclera will start.

This was preceded by the first training session, in which Hamilton was by far the fastest, beating Verstapen by 0.452 seconds.

On Saturday, the second F-1 sprint race in history will take place, where pilots will cover a distance of 100 kilometers or about a third of the usual racing distance. Pilots who finish in the first three positions will receive three, two and one points respectively in the overall World Cup standings. In the sprint, the pilots will compete for the starting places in the Italian Grand Prix competition on Sunday.

Matches of this format took place in Great Britain this season and will take place in two more stages.

After 13 stages, the leader with 224.5 points is Verstapens, who is three points ahead of Hamilton. Botass is third with 123 points, while Norris has 114 points, while Peres has 108 points.

In 2020, the seventh F-1 title in his career and the fourth in a row was won by the British Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes. Previously, only the legendary German driver Michael Schumacher managed to win seven times. The Mercedes team also won the seventh Constructor’s Cup in a row.

This season, a record number of races were originally planned (23), but at the end of August it became clear that the planned stage would not take place in Japan. For this reason, 22 F-1 stages will be completed this season.
