Bookmaker Samantina Tina predicts stable chances to enter the Eurovision final

“17 countries participate in our semi-finals, and only 3-4 of them are among the top 10 favorites, while the rest perform in the second semi-final. In addition, Estonia is also in our semi-finals, which could traditionally vote for Latvia. Samanta’s vocals are strong enough to get votes from the jury, but it must be said that the theme of the song – women’s power, rights and independence – is very suitable for the “Eurovision” competition, “says Samsa Tina’s chances of entering the final adding that the promotion between the top 10 final songs is currently estimated with a 12% probability and is not impossible.

The song “The Moon is Rising” and its video were released to the audience on March 12. The video, which also depicts representatives of the LGBT community, has earned a diametrically opposite assessment in Latvia.

In a recent interview with “Latvian Television”, Samanta Tīna emphasized that the message of the composition is about strong women and it is similar to what the singer wanted to express last year with the song “Still Breathing”, which won the domestic selection. The artist also pointed out that the song was not calculated with the “Eurovision” format. “I am definitely not the one who creates something to try to hit, ”Stressed Samantha Tina.

At the same time, the initiative submitted on the website manabalss.lv to prevent Samanta Tīna from participating in the Eurovision Song Contest with the composition “The Moon is Rising” has also caused a sharp public discussion. The author of the initiative, musician Kaspars Pudniks, believes that Tīna and LTV “spit in the soul of Latvian society and the traditional values nurtured by the Latvian people for centuries”, moreover, the song has not been chosen in the public vote, as it has been so far. However, this initiative has not yet been able to attract a particularly large group of supporters and is likely to remain silent without any further developments.

65. The semi-finals of the International Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam on 18 and 20 May, and the final will take place on the evening of 22 May. Samanta Tīna will perform in the second, May 20, semi-final. Latvia last entered the final of the competition six years ago – in 2015, Aminata did it with the song “Love Injected”, winning the honorable 6th place. Aminata is also the co-author of The Moon is Rising.

Samantina Tīna had participated in the selection of “Eurovision” in Latvia five times, until last February she won the national competition “Supernova” with the song “Still Breathing”. For the first time, the winner was determined only by a spectator vote, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam was canceled. This year, the competition will take place in a slightly different format in the same city in the Netherlands, and is open to representatives of the Member States nominated in 2020, but not with a previously winning song.

Betsafe bookmakers have recognized Malta and Switzerland as the main favorites of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Malta’s Destiny has a 22% chance of winning, while Swiss artist Gjon’s Tears has a 20% chance of winning. Destiny’s song “Je Me Casse”, as well as Samantha Tina’s composition, also plays on the theme of women’s independence and power, which has so far been able to address the audience quite convincingly.

Samantas Tīna’s chances of winning the “Eurovision” final from the bookmakers’ point of view are not great. Betsafe only assesses such a scenario with a probability of 0.7%. According to expert estimates, Lithuania has the best chance from the Baltic States – currently it ranks 7th among the favorites with a probability of winning by about 7%. Until a couple of weeks ago, when not all the songs of the competition were known, the Lithuanian eccentric pop rock band “The Roop” was a clear leader in the bookmakers’ assessment.
