Bergmanis sees an opportunity to extend support for Ukrainian refugees in the AS-led amendments to the law

Currently, the refugee support measures are planned until the end of this year. Bergmanis cannot say why the decision to extend support was delayed, being the responsibility of the previous Saeima, when he was not in the governing coalition.

The politician admitted that there is very little time left to make decisions and hopes that decisions can be made to extend support urgently.

According to Bergmanis, it is quite clear that support for refugees from Ukraine should be continued, however, we have yet to hear from both state and local government representatives about the possibilities for continued assistance, as well as direct aid providers about whether it is needed improvements in the system.

According to the deputy, the decision-making scheme could be that today the commission chaired by him decides in first reading to advance the amendments proposed by AS to the “Law on support for civilians of Ukraine”, which currently does not provide for the extension of support, but additions to these changes would be submitted for extension of support when the bill is further revised.

The amendments to the law could also be called urgent, as a result, could be adopted in the final reading on December 8, Bergmanis estimated.

JSC’s offer provides in the law to change the rules on the possibilities of local governments to make donations to Ukraine, stating: “If in 2022, after the approval of the annual report, the municipal capital company donates (donates) repeatedly property for the general support of the Ukrainian society, is entitled to this repeated donation (donation) not to apply the condition that the profit amount of the previous reporting year is reduced by the state and local government budget subsidy received in the year of reference in question to mitigate the consequences of the crisis caused by the Covid-19”.
