Diogo Mendes, 23-year-old defensive midfielder from Benfica B, was made official yesterday as the latest addition to Marítimo. The contract is valid for the next five seasons. Diogo Mendes arrives permanently at the club, although Benfica kept a percentage of the pass – a deal identical to the transfer of also former Benfica player David Tavares to Famalicão – thus safeguarding a future sale of the player or possibly a repurchase.
Who knows well the qualities of the midfielder, who was also intended by Estoril and Famalicão, is João Tralhão. The coach, who last season coached Vilafranquense, coached him in Benfica’s juniors between 2015 and 2018 and in the under-23s in 2018/2019. Before the footballing qualities, Tralhão praises the human aspect of the now Marítimo midfielder.
