Daniel Vávra’s opinion on Cyberpunk 2077

Most of Daniel Vávra will unite as the creator of the Mafia and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. But the well-known Czech developer is also a critic. He became famous as a man who hates The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. On social networks, from time to time, he points out mistakes and good things from various games. He could not miss the expected Cyberpunk 2077.

Vávra started playing Cyberpunk 2077 right after its release. But first he was confused and on Facebook the day after the premiere he wrote: “Can you tell me – who am I in that Cyberpunk? Who are the other people? What should I do? Why? Which way?”

He later clarified that he had expressed some disappointment that he was doing something in the game for several hours without knowing who he was, what he was doing, why he was doing it, and who the people around him were. It seemed to him that his character knew more than he did.

“I was wondering if I was missing something and doing something wrong because it doesn’t sound like a good storytelling approach and it kind of prevents me from getting used to the character and immersing myself in the action, because the EVENT is somehow expressed by the fact that I know, at least in part, what is happening, or I have some interest in participating in it, and I want to influence the event because of that interest, “ said Vávra.

In another post on Facebook, he explained his accusation and gave an example of what he thought it should be (he chose Nomad’s life path): “I can start in exactly the same way, but in a conversation at the service station I simply tell the mechanic what I’m doing and why – I’m a courier, I have to deliver the package to someone who is waiting for me here somewhere and I need to call him. I’m a nomad, but I’m not with my clan because (add any interesting reason – they were murdered by members of the corporation, I didn’t want to participate in their anal orgies anymore, I’m vegan and I’m looking for a recipe for the best vegan burger) and that’s why I need to get to town. The person to whom I hand over the package promises me that he will help me to the city instead of money. In the city, I will try to meet my partial goal (get a recipe for a vegan burger), but I will fail, I will lose money and this guy will help me. Since I’m fucked, they introduce me to the people who employ me, which are the people who are only shown in assembly in CP.

All this means about 1-2 extra quests, which is probably not a big complication in such a huge game, especially when it comes to the beginning of the game, which is to catch you and define the characters for the rest of the story.

The result is that: I KNOW WHO I AM, WHERE I AM, WHY I AM, WHO THE PEOPLE ARE, WHAT I SPEAK WITH ME, WHY I FRIEND THEM, HOW WE GET MEETED, and above all I ENJOY IT AND I HAVE SOME MOTIVATION. On the contrary, no one tells me what kind of character I have and what to do. “

A few days later he was with Cyberpunk happier and he doesn’t understand the terrible beginning. “So I mainly have to take off my hat before that disgusting amount of work. Graphically, it’s incredible and when it comes to character animation, it’s basically one long animated film. So many custom animations on NPCs … It’s just unbelievable and it looks like that too. Basically, I feel like it is the first real interactive film.

Moreover, virtually no uncanny valley gusts – Keanu looks like a living Keanu and not like his puppet. Even the woman, when she came, said she was real. And this is perhaps the first time in the game that has happened.

It looks so good and it moves! And it’s fascinating to watch that perhaps for the first time we managed to make an FPS game where I’m talking to someone at first glance and it looks like in real life, and not that somewhere in the distance there is a Franta, whom I can’t see in my face and therefore I have no idea how face and when I speak, I feel like someone is speaking behind me. Really good work. So I really don’t understand the terrible beginning. “

So what does Daniel Vávra think about Cyberpunk 2077? He had already finished the game and this morning he boasted of his opinion on Twitter. According to him, Cyberpunk 2077 is a masterpiece – except for a slow start. He praised the amazing story by Adam Blach and Tomasz Marchewek and he called the visual page incredible.

“Congratulations to the whole CD Project team for the best game in the last two years – for me,” added.

“Among many other things, Cyberpunk 2077 has the best written love / sex scenes and relationships in the game (except, of course, Teresa in Kingdom Come: Deliverance). Corresponding with Panama was like real life. I almost fell in love with her and the scene … :-), “ another tweet followed.

“I was very skeptical about this game when it was announced, and I did not expect them to repeat the success of Sorcerer 3. The game and its narration absolutely amazed me. “ we will read in another tweet about the hatred that prevails around Cyberpunk 2077 on the Internet.

“Every big open-world RPG is buggy. This is because it is so complicated that it is impossible to test everything without millions of people trying all the crazy combinations that are possible in the game. Cyberpunk 2077 has been released on 9 (!!!) platforms, which is even harder, ” clarified Vávra to the players.

Cyberpunk 2077 was released on December 10 this year with Czech subtitles on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game runs on PS5 and Xbox Series X / S for backward compatibility.
