With the Christmas holidays over, it’s time to get rid of Christmas trees. Usually, Friborg, these small trees are picked up by trucks. But this time, the City decided to innovate by turning to a more ecological means of transport: draft horses.
Thus, on Monday, January 13, the Christmas trees will be collected by horse-drawn carriage in the districts of Auge and Neuveville, and by truck to Prolles and Beaumont. On January 20, a team will pass Bourguillon, while a truck will take charge of the Schoenberg and Windig. Finally, on January 27, the village and the Alt district will be visited by a crew, while a truck will crisscross the Vignettaz, Beauregard, Gambach, Jura and Torry.
Horses have been waiting since 2016
This decision follows a postulate dating from 2016. At the time, applicants largely extolled the advantages of this method. The disadvantages seem to be minimal compared to the positive financial, ecological, social impacts, as well as on the communication and the promotion of the City and the Services, summarizes the report of the Municipal Council.
There was, however, talk of incorporating horses into most of the tasks of the road. Thus, this pickup will act as a test. In a second step and depending on the results, this project could be resumed with the construction of a farm in town, which would include, among other things, the presence of the horse, indicates the Municipal Council.
