Ahlen – As far as the gender balance is concerned, the local elections have brought no change. The new council also has only ten women and 34 men.
After the somewhat stumbled start with the election of the deputy mayor (as reported), the council quickly processed the further regulations at its constituent meeting on Monday in the town hall. It was unanimously decided to change the jurisdiction of the Council. It includes the formation of a new committee for the environment, climate protection and mobility. Among other things, it should advise on fundamental questions and measures of environmental and climate protection as well as on concepts and measures for the use of regenerative energies. Traffic development and noise action plans as well as measures to promote mobility are also part of the task description of the committee, which, however, only has limited decision-making powers.
The previous committee for order, public institutions and suggestions will be expanded to include the topic of digitization. In the future, it will also deal with issues of digital infrastructure, digital education and citizen participation. The council groups had agreed in advance on the composition of the committees – including the youth welfare committee – as well as on the appointment of the committee chairmen and their deputies. The CDU – the strongest parliamentary group with 18 seats – presides over five committees, the SPD (13 seats) in three. One committee chair each fell to the Greens and the BMA, who had drawn up a joint list.
The council will send five members to the integration council, which will be constituted on November 12th and will elect its chairperson (s). The CDU is headed by Dietmar Kupfernagel and Dr. Gabriel Hanne represented the SPD by Bernhard Meiwes and Frank Viehfeger. The Greens, as the third largest parliamentary group, are entitled to a seat that Benjamin Fenger is supposed to take, with Deniz Aydin and Nelly Sophie Paul named as his deputies.
