WrestleMania 40 Kicks Off in Philadelphia with Thrilling Night One Matches and The Rock’s Return to the Ring

PHILADELPHIA — The biggest event in wrestling has arrived.

It is time for WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, where WWE will hold its flagship two-day event that will bring wrestling fans across the world to Lincoln Financial Field.

Night one of WrestleMania will feature seven matches, three of which will be for championships. Highlighting those title fights is the superstar battle for the Women’s World Championship between Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch. But the main event of the night will be the return of The Rock, who makes his highly anticipated return to the ring to team up with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

WWE has been paying respect to the late Bray Wyatt all weekend, and it made sure to do so at WrestleMania. As an ad played for the Bray Wyatt documentary inside the stadium, the crowd lit up the arena with the fireflies that were always a part of Wyatt’s entrance. His entrance music then played inside Lincoln Financial Field.

Twelve people and ladders in the ring is a recipe for chaos, but the structure of this match presented the chance to separate the Raw and Smackdown tag team titles, with them hanging above the ring.

There were some good spots in the match, but R-Truth once again stole the show when he went full John Cena mode, imitating his moves. However, the titles were ultimately won by Grayson Waller and Austin Theory, leaving the Raw tag team titles still up for grabs.

The highly-anticipated Women’s World Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Becky Lynch did not disappoint. Both stars delivered a fierce battle, with Ripley ultimately retaining her title after executing her signature moves. The crowd was left in awe and Ripley remained on top in this fantastic opening match.

WrestleMania 40 can be streamed on Peacock, but a premium or premium-plus subscription is required. To catch the action internationally, it will be available on WWE Network.

The only way to stream WrestleMania without cable is through Peacock, which offers various subscription plans to suit different preferences.

For the first time in eight years, The Rock will be competing in a WWE match. Teaming up with Roman Reigns, they will battle Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins in the main event match of night one.

WrestleMania’s two-day format, introduced in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, has proven successful and allows for more matches and better audience experience. However, it requires fans to be prepared for chilly temperatures, with temperatures expected to be around 50 degrees during the event.

Throughout the weekend, WrestleMania has seen its fair share of surprises and changes. From honoring Bray Wyatt’s legacy to unexpected tag team alliances, the event has kept fans on their toes.

Notably, Rey Mysterio was left without a partner after Dragon Lee’s untimely injury. However, former partner Andrade stepped up to team with Mysterio instead.
