Eat breakfast before training can he help the body burn more carbohydrates. This is the conclusion of a study conducted by a team of active researchers at the University of Bath. Details of their work have been published on the pages of the magazine American Journal of Physiology: Endocrinology and Metabolism.
The experts in question recruited a sample of 12 male adult subjects. The latter were divided into two groups: the first was invited to have a porridge breakfast to milk two hours before doing a training session in bicycle. The second, on the other hand, was instructed to fast for 12 – 14 hours before devoting himself to running.
At the follow up, it was possible to discover that in the subjects included in the group that had consumed the Breakfast before the workout, he was faster disposal of carbohydrates during exercise. Furthermore, a greater speed in digestive processes was also identified in subjects who had eaten breakfast.
The experts who carried out the study, commenting on the results, pointed out that i carbohydrates burned during the workout they weren’t just from porridge, but also from the stores stored in the muscle (eg glycogen).
As specified by Dr Javier Gonzalez, study co-author and lecturer at the University of Bath’s Department of Health – the expert made statements to the site Healtline – it is an important scientific work as, for the first time, it was possible to show that the Breakfast is able to accelerate the elimination of glucose from the bloodstream and muscles.
What has just been described was obviously observed after consumption of breakfast and, as already mentioned, also in cases where physical activity was performed in the time lapse between breakfast and lunch.
Returning to Gonzalez’s point of view, we point out that, according to him, a breakfast too high in fat would produce a different response, altering the glucose control. We conclude by pointing out that, before implementing any changes relating to breakfast, it is advisable to consult your doctor.
