The man met an older woman on an online dating site. He claimed that he had no problems with money because he was a partner in a family company dealing with truck transport. A thirty-six-year-old woman believed him.
“At first she lent him her own savings, later she got into debt with the banks. All the loans were realized in just eight days,” said police spokeswoman Monika Kozumplíková.
The fraudster filed a criminal complaint against the man in mid-February. Probably at the time she found out that the man had lied to her about his financial situation.
“Criminal investigators have found that there are several enforcement proceedings against the person in question. He also admitted that he owed money to several other women he had met in the past,” Kozumplíková added.
Police from the economic crime department accused the man of committing fraud, for which he faces up to eight years in prison.
