GAt 2:20 a.m. local time, US President Donald Trump appeared in front of his supporters in the White House – at the latest press conference of his life, as he noted. It turned out to be a speech steeped in history. A speech that was immediately described by experts as a low point in the history of American democracy.
Trump listed states that the Republicans supposedly won, such as Georgia and North Carolina. However, the counting of votes is still ongoing there. In view of delays in an election result, he spoke of “massive fraud” that he would go to the Supreme Court, the country’s highest court,to stop the further counting of absentee votes. “We don’t want them to find ballot papers at four in the morning and add them to the list.”
The US President also claimed the victory overall for himself. “We were ready to win this election. In all honesty: We have now won this election. ”
Legally, Trump’s declaration of victory has no relevance. Trump said he was close to partying. But then a “very sad group” would have tried to take the votes away from him.
The Biden team criticized Trump’s statements as “scandalous”. The legal experts are prepared for a judicial dispute. Joe Biden had previously called on his supporters to be patient in a speech in Wilmington, Delaware. It could take a while for a result to be established. “It’s not over until every vote has been counted.”
Mathematically, both candidates still have the chance to win the election.Nonetheless, the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jansa Trump has already congratulated Trump on his election victory.
The governor of Pennsylvania, Tom Wolf, protested against his allegations after Trump’s speech. On Twitter he wrote: “Let’s be clear: this is a partisan attack on the Pennsylvania elections, our votes and democracy. Our counties work tirelessly to process votes as quickly and accurately as possible. Pennsylvania will have fair elections and we will count every vote. ”He said the US state has more than a million postal votes yet to be counted.
