Ukraine Update: Russia Beaten Back Away From Ukraine’s Second City All

KYIV, KOMPAS.com – Troops Russia now pushed away from the second city Ukraine, Kharkiv moment Russian attack on Ukraine entering the 76th day.

The news was delivered by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskywhile conveying a warning to remain vigilant as Washington says Vladimir Putin will not stop in the east and is ready for a long war.

In his evening speech on Tuesday (10/5/2022), Zelensky said he had “good news” from the northeastern region of Kharkiv.

“The invaders were gradually pushed away,” he said as dilan.

“I thank all of our defenders who stayed on the front lines and demonstrated true superhuman strength to repel the invading army.”

The head of the Kharkiv state administration Oleg Synegubov said on Telegram that “fierce fighting” was taking place in the region, and that the city was under heavy fire.

“Due to the successful offensive operation, our defenders freed Cherkasy Tyshky, Rusky Tyshky, Rubizhne and Bayrak from the invaders,” he said.

“Thus, the enemy is pushed further away from Kharkiv, and the invaders have less opportunity to fire at regional centers.”

Temporary shift?

Despite the apparent progress, Zelensky urged Ukraine not to “create moral pressure, because victories are expected to continue on a weekly and even daily basis”, a reflection of the intense pressure Russia has placed on its neighbors.

As for the Kharkiv region itself, Synegubov announced that 44 civilian bodies were found under the rubble of destroyed buildings in the eastern city of Izyum, which is now under Russian control.

Since trying and failing to take Kyiv in the first weeks of the invasion of Ukraine since late February, Moscow has shifted its focus to the Russian-speaking Donbas region in the east.

But on Tuesday (10/5/2022) Director of National Intelligence AS Avril Haines said the decision to concentrate Russian troops was “just a temporary change”.

“We assess that President Putin is preparing for a prolonged conflict in Ukraine where he still intends to achieve goals outside of the Donbas,” Haines said.

He added US intelligence thinks the Russian leader is determined to build a land bridge to Russian-controlled territory in Moldova.

To achieve that goal, Moscow troops had to take the southern city of Odessa, where missile attacks have destroyed buildings, burned shopping malls and killed one person, and disrupted a visit by European Council President Charles Michel on Monday (9/5/2022).

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden warned that Ukraine may run out of funds to continue struggling within days.

Following that grim prediction, the US House of Representatives decided to send a $40 billion aid package to the country.

The US Senate is expected to approve the decision by the end of this week or next, a rare show of bipartisan support that would bring total US aid to Ukraine to about $54 billion.

“With this aid package, America is sending a resounding message to the world of our unwavering determination to stand with the brave Ukrainian people until victory is won,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told her fellow Democrats ahead of the vote.
