From Sunday, December 12th, at midnight, the lockdown in Vienna will be over. Here you will find the Corona rules that will then apply in Vienna. The lockdown for the unvaccinated is extended by ten days.
For those who have been vaccinated, the corona lockdown ends on Sunday at midnight. The federal government has extended the lockdown for unvaccinated persons by ten days. Basically: The lockdown for unvaccinated people is extended by a further ten days in the federal ordinance. All other regulations apply to people who are not covered by the lockdown for unvaccinated people.

The following rules apply in Vienna from Sunday, December 12th
After the end of the lockdown on Sunday – which will be lifted at least for vaccinated people – Vienna will in part have rules that are more restrictive than those in the federal government. In addition to the already known later opening of restaurants and tourism businesses, which are only allowed to open on December 20th, there is also tightening of outdoor events. In addition, significantly fewer visits to patients in hospitals are possible from Sunday.

Rules for events
For outdoor events without assigned seats, a maximum of 300 participants applies. These must be vaccinated or recovered and must also bring a negative PCR test result. So the so-called 2G-plus rule applies. It is not necessary to wear a mask. If seats are allocated, up to 4,000 people can take part in the event.

2G rule and FFP2 obligation indoors
Unlike what was planned before the lockdown in Vienna, 2G-plus will not be available indoors. In the future – as stipulated in the federal ordinance – 2G and FFP2 mask wear will apply there. As a spokesman for Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) explained to the APA, this is because countries can only tighten regional regulations. Although 2G-Plus could have been prescribed for indoor events, the mask requirement could not have been relaxed at the same time. However, it was emphasized that the test and mask were not to be expected of the visitors.
–
Stricter corona rules in hospitals
One is also stricter in hospitals. The number of visitors is – apart from special hardship cases – limited to one person per patient and per week. In addition, this only applies from the second week of your stay. According to the federal ordinance, one visitor per day and person is again permitted in hospitals and health resorts if they meet 2G and are also PCR-tested. Vienna is reacting with the stricter guidelines to the dangers of the new Omikron variant, the spokesman explained.

Gastronomy and night gastronomy
Another area in which Vienna wanted to tighten before the lockdown is currently not relevant. Because 2G-Plus should also have been used in night-time catering. Their opening is not yet an issue. Restaurants and cafes, on the other hand, are allowed to open again on December 20, whereby the 2G regulation will then apply there.
–
The hotel industry will be closed until December 19th
The hotel industry in Vienna will remain closed until December 19, 2021. There are certain exceptions such as professional reasons that cannot be postponed or an urgent need for housing (e.g. burst water pipe at home). A 3G certificate is sufficient for this exception.
