On thePlayStation blogStudio founders Sam Edwards and Ben Massey take a closer look at game content and postponement:“As a player, you take on the role of a plane crash survivor stranded in the Pacific. You explore exotic waters and island environments as you search for supplies to build the tools, weapons and protection you need to survive.
You will experience crazy encounters with sharks, giant squids and other sea creatures. Defend yourself against attacks by wild boar, snakes and other local threats on land. Hunger, thirst and hypothermia work against you while defying the elements. It shouldn’t be easy and it won’t be … but if you survive all of this, you can escape! This is something the players couldn’t do before, so be the first!
For me personally, I have to say that when we picked up the controller one evening and played the final, approved PS4 version, it was absolutely … surreal. Hereby our passion project and our first console title finally come to life. We worked on this game for over 5 years – a couple of guys from Brisbane who previously had other jobs in other industries. We have always loved games and wanted to create something that we think people want to play and that is fun.
We originally planned to release the game in partnership with our former publisher. After it was dissolved, we bought back the console rights so that we could bring it out ourselves – with the support of friends from the industry and the community. It was an incredible, crazy journey until we finally got there …
