The National Art Museum of Catalonia will present exhibition projects with current themes this year

This will be a year of intense collaboration with museums in the country and, at the same time, of strengthening alliances with foreign museums, and also for the collections to continue growing in all areas covered by the museum, but with special emphasis on making visible to women artists and to continue building the extension of the collection until the post-war period and the second avant-garde.

In collaboration with the Tate in London, an exhibition by William Turner will be presented in May and, in parallel, a selection of 19th-century works from the museum’s collection will be exhibited, showing the artists’ sensitivity to nature. These two exhibitions put the focus on the environmental issue. It is also the result of international collaboration, this time between three institutions (Museo del Prado, Museo Barberini and Museu Nacional), the exhibition that will bring together for the first time the mural paintings that Annibale Carracci made at the beginning of the 17th century in the Herrera Chapel of Rome. This sample scheduled for the year 2020, was affected by the health crisis and will be presented from July 1. The year 2022 will also be the year in which the great Gaudí exhibition organized by the museum will travel to Paris, to the Musée d’Orsay.

Two projects provide new research and knowledge about two artists in the collection: the first, the exhibition ‘Borrassá and the Barcelona Cathedral’, which will allow the presentation of two works by this outstanding International Gothic artist acquired by the Government of Catalonia; and the second, ‘Arxiu Anglada Camarasa’ which, thanks to the donation of the artist’s archive by the painter’s daughter, will allow unpublished aspects of his work process to be discovered. And there will also be exhibitions and installations by artists such as Jordi Bernadó, and the intervention ‘Meternasis’ with works by Nuria Pompeia, Mari Chordá and Roser Bru on the theme of motherhood.
