The Importance of HPV Vaccination in Preventing Cervical Cancer – Expert Insights by Alfredo Manzano

Alfredo Manzano, with a specialty in gynecology, reported that the vaccine against the Human Papillomavirus allows the body to produce a greater immune response against cervical cancer.

In addition, he explained that the HPV vaccine is 10 times more powerful in terms of antibody production than the infection itself.

He indicated that it is important that parents agree to immunize their daughters, as it is the most effective strategy to prevent cervical cancer in the female population.

“It is necessary to vaccinate girls against HPV before they begin their sexual life, because although adolescents over 15 years of age can also be vaccinated, at this age their immune response is poorer.

He added that even on some occasions, when vaccinating from the age of 15, adolescents require more doses (up to a third). On the other hand, some girls have already started their sexual life at this age.

He pointed out that the HPV vaccine provides a high percentage of protection to women’s health. An example of this is that it protects more than 90 percent against initial lesions of cervical cancer.
