To date, 12,835 Covid-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals in Latvia. One of them is Evija Livčāne. A tuberculosis doctor whose severity of illness suggests both medical possibilities and the presence of a miracle. After eight weeks in the hospital, much of whom was in a coma, the doctor returned to work and is now treating other Covid-19 patients. But her ten-year-old daughter is happy to have a mother next to her.

Evija Livčāne, a lung doctor, is literally leaving her job at the Tuberculosis and Lung Disease Center in Stopiņi. Her experience is worth the script of the film. The doctor became ill in December and returned to work as a patient.

“I came to the hospital on Thursday, and on Saturday afternoon I didn’t breathe anymore,” says Livčāne.

During the eight weeks of illness, the doctor visited four different intensive care units. “Unfortunately, there was nothing to solve with artificial lung ventilation. And I had an eco. It is a device that supplies a person with oxygen when the lungs are no longer working, ”explains the pneumonologist.

She is one of the few who survived in Latvia after the connection of this device and the course of such a serious illness. There are scars left on the neck by the machine. Mind – what is seen.

“When you realize that people around you are actually dying. No matter how difficult you are, you see that someone was next to you, then suddenly you start to get to bed.

Those who do not graft, say, as it will, I will die and peace. Than! Its death does not come easily. It is very, very difficult, ”Livčāne knows.

The doctor calls all doctors rescuers in capital letters. But no one is known in the face, because they all came in protective clothes. “She is a nursing assistant from Gaiļezers toxicology. Definitely, it is the duty of him. But the care with which this tall bearish guy washed my hair. Or ice cream that the doctor brought me so that I could at least eat something, ”Livčāne remembers.

The struggle for survival began right after the coma. What you feel when thinking about children at home is incomprehensible to the mind. “It simply came to our notice then. I think at first she didn’t understand … Mom always answers, even when she can’t talk. And then suddenly mom is out of the zone and all the time is out of the zone. And the adult family members couldn’t get in and tell her. And now that time has passed, my daughter says, “I realized you could have died, but I really believed it wouldn’t happen to you.” And probably some faith took me back, ”says the sufferer.

Covid-19 is very present. The Covid-19 beds at the Tuberculosis and Lung Center are also occupied at all times. That is why the tuberculosis doctor emphasizes –

you have to learn to live with the virus, protecting yourself as much as possible.

“And if we are given vaccines … Having almost died of Covid-19, I want to say that we must do everything we can to protect ourselves! We must return. Children have to go to school, dance, play sports, we have to go to the cinema. You have to live a normal life! ” says Evija Livčāne.

After five days at the Vaivari Rehabilitation Center, the doctor was able to go to the sea on her own. She has returned to work in five months. “And save others and I can continue! She has crossed that river again, ”she adds.
