IIt will be prohibited to drink alcohol on public roads in certain areas of Anderlecht during the summer. The mayor of the town, Fabrice Cumps (PS), signed a police order to this effect, following numerous complaints transmitted by residents. The measure will apply from July 1 to September 30.
According to the mayor, many residents have turned to local authorities to denounce the nuisance caused by the consumption of alcohol in public spaces, especially in small groups. The local police have recorded numerous complaints related to this consumption, for disturbing public order (fights, inappropriate behavior), noise pollution but also acts of cleanliness.
A careful examination of the complaints made it possible to identify three areas where the difficulties are concentrated: it is a part of Cureghem (overall between the Gare du Midi and the Chaussée de Mons via the Aviation Square), the center of the town (rue Wayez, places de la Résistance, de la Vaillance, De Linde and Parc Astrid) and La Roue – Bizet (between rue Félicien Rops, place Bizet and the main arteries of the garden city of La Wheel).
The police order will prohibit the consumption of alcoholic beverages in the aforementioned public spaces. Violators of this regulation are liable to a municipal administrative penalty of 50 euros. The ban does not apply to consumption on the terraces of cafes, restaurants and other Horeca establishments as well as in the context of events authorized by the municipality.
