THE BALL – What will UEFA lose with the termination with Gazprom (UEFA)

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine led UEFA to announce, this Monday, the end of the link with Gazprom. The largest natural gas company in the Russian federation was, remember, the main sponsor of the Champions League and had an agreement signed until 2024, when it would be represented in the European Championship.

Regarding this agreement, the KPMG revealed that UEFA will lose more than €100 million. This is because Gazprom had planned to pay €50 million per year until 2024, of which the amount for 2021 has already been settled and as for 2022, the year in which the contract is broken, there are still no amounts.

In addition to UEFA, Schalke had already announced the end of the connection with Gazprom, and the German club had expected to receive around €30 million in the remainder of the agreement.
