THE BALL – UEFA asks Ukraine to remove controversial phrase from jerseys (Euro

UEFA asked Ukraine to modify the shirt to be used in the competition, considering that the model presented is politically motivated.

At the time of the revelation, the shirt had already generated controversy for presenting a map of the country that includes the Crimea and Donbass, regions annexed by Russia, but also the phrase inside the collar “Glory to our heroes” was analyzed.

Speaking to the AFP agency, UEFA justified that “after further analysis” it understood that the inscription on the shirt “clearly has a political nature”.

So the phrase should be removed for the games of Euro2020, in group C, with the Netherlands, Northern Macedonia and Austria.

On the other hand, the map that appears on the front of the shirt was approved, a model that had even been approved by President Volodimir Zelenskiy, who posted a selfie on Instagram with the shirt.
