In an interview given to podcast ‘In The Stiffs’, Joe Hart recalled the conversation he had with Nuno Espírito Santo at the beginning of the season. Then at Tottenham, the English goalkeeper recalled the conversation he had with the Portuguese coach, who in the meantime was replaced in the spurs by Antonio Conte.
“There has been a big change at Tottenham. They need a lot of people to go out and a lot to come in. [Nuno] called me. I knew they were looking to hire another goalkeeper and told me we would talk after training. He said to me: ‘I will speak first. Let’s be absolutely clear, no matter what, this year you’re not going to touch a ball. You’re free to leave'”, said the now Celtic player, where he is the absolute starter in goal (46 games this season), also remembering some harsh words from Nuno Espírito Santo.
“In my opinion, we all reach a point in our careers where the body doesn’t allow us to play football. We’re at that point now. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with you playing a minute for me. The ball is too fast for you, you are too old, you don’t move, you don’t have the strength in your body”, completed Joe Hart, who ended up leaving the English emblem to head to Scottish football.
In 2020/2021, José Mourinho used the former English international in 10 matches, always in the Europa League or FA Cup.
