The number of fatalities of the coronavirus in the residences of the Community of Madrid has fallen markedly to mark a milestone: for the first time since the health crisis began, the number of residents deceased from other pathologies exceeds deaths by covid-19. Between last Tuesday and this Friday, 17 inmates of the centers located in the Community of Madrid have died from the pandemic, compared to the 123 who died between April 25 and 28, according to data provided by the Ministry of Social Policies to the Ministry of Health twice a week.

In the last three days, 81 people have died in the Community of Madrid, of which 17 suffered from coronaviruses. This figure contrasts with the proportion that reigned in recent weeks. Since March 8, a total of 7,337 users of residential social centers throughout the region have died, of which 5,828 have been due to coronavirus. Of these, 1,126 were confirmed by tests with covid-19 and 4,702 with symptoms, data that reflects that all necessary tests have still not been carried out in these facilities.

The Government gave the autonomous communities until April 8 to start sending residency data, but has not published anything since then.

The data refers to all authorized residential social service centers in the Community of Madrid that pay attention to the sectors of the elderly, people with disabilities and people with mental illness. There are 710 centers and 42,956 residents. The vast majority of all of them are geriatric, a total of 475 centers (18 indirectly managed, 161 concerted, 271 private and 25 direct public) that they concentrate almost all mortality.

Two dead in the operated centers

To date, a total of 14 residences where 14.34 elderly live are operated by the Regional Executive and the number of deaths with covid-19 in these centers reaches 636, only two more than between April 25 and 28.

The residences operated since early April are DomusVi Espartales, Casaquinta Ciempozuelos, Isabel La Católica-La Ventilla, Fundación Reina Sofía Alzheimer, Sergesa Boadilla, Vitalia Leganés, Monte Hermoso Madrid, Residencia de Usera, Geriatel Rivas, Orpea Santo Domingo, Santísima Virgen y San Celedonio, La Purísima Concepción and Santa Teresa Jornet.

The latest addition has been the geriatric Las Golondrinas de Robledo de Chavela, since there have been many infected and have very few staff, regional sources have told Europa Press. The number of workers in these nursing homes stood from March 24 to date 1,376, six fewer than the other time. Of the users of these 14 residences, there are 493 no symptoms and without contact with coronavirus patients (50 more than on Tuesday), 451 are without symptoms but in preventive isolation due to contact with covid-19 patients (9 less), 25 isolated with symptoms (36 less) and 465 confirmed positives, 5 more than Tuesday.
