San Valentín benefits NYC’s Latino restaurants

For Valentine’s Day, the city’s restaurants prepared with colorful decorations, roses and even created a special selection of food, waiting for customers to arrive to celebrate the occasion.

And it is that the date has been favorable for many of these businesses that, from Friday, began to serve indoors again.

To which is added the provision that they will be able to close at 11 at night.

The state government announced the change in restrictions due to the reduction in new cases of coronavirus and hospitalizations at the state level.

And in Washington Heights, restaurants like Havana Heights and El Malecón welcomed the new measures.

This is how chef Eliseo put it: “Until 11 at night one more hour; we also thank you for another hour.”

And due to the occupation that locals usually have on the day of love and friendship, a family chose to have an early lunch.

“I started in the morning because I didn’t want to have the rush in the afternoon,” explained one diner.

For several weeks, restaurants served their customers from outside their establishments and once again operate with a 25% capacity from the inside.

As workers in the restaurant industry are grateful, but hope that capacity will increase over time.

“Thanks to the governor who at least gave it. We thought he was not going to do it but thank God 25%. We were asking him for 50% because we believe we have the capacity because we follow the protocol. Here all the employees carry it”, the chef details.

For this special celebration, the establishments were in charge of implementing security protocols to prevent COVID-19 infections.

An employee of the Havana Heights restaurant commented: “Reservations are made, in order of arrival and from the moment you arrive at the door, your temperature is taken, your address and telephone number are taken.”

The owners assure that measures like this will help New Yorkers have the security of going out to eat at restaurants.
