Russian Private Military Company Redut Hiring HIV and Hepatitis Patients for Six-Month Contracts

Recruiters have started posting announcements on Russian social media that they will accept men with HIV and hepatitis. Contracts with them would be for six months, with a salary of 230,000 rubles ($2,542), with the possibility of bonuses.

The ad was responded to by a journalist who introduced himself as a man with HIV who wanted to go to war. The recruiter informed him that any contract would be concluded with the private military company “Redut”.

He clarified that a volunteer with HIV must bring antiretroviral therapy drugs: “We will only provide you with what you will fight. You will have to buy the drugs in Donetsk, we will not supply them.”

HIV-positive and hepatitis patients cannot officially sign a contract with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, so Russia is able to bypass the rules with this step.
