[２１日 ロイター] – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday backed plans to increase the size of the army by more than 30%. At a meeting of military leaders, Defense Minister Shoigu proposed increasing combat personnel from 1.15 million to 1.5 million.
Putin said he needed to learn from the problems he faced in Ukraine and solve them. Putin just this summer signed a decree ordering an increase of 137,000 combat personnel from January 1, 2023, to the level of 1.15 million. In addition, he issued a partial mobilization order and summoned 300,000 people, causing social unrest such as draft evasion and anti-war demonstrations.
US and Western military analysts estimate that tens of thousands of Russian soldiers died in the 10 months following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
