At the end of August 2021, the foreign exchange reserves at the National Bank of Romania stood at 41.616 billion euros, up 6.68% from the level of 39.008 billion euros recorded on July 31, 2021, the central bank announced on Wednesday. Agerpres.
During the month, inflows of 3.343 billion euros took place, representing: the modification of the minimum foreign exchange reserves constituted by the credit institutions at the NBR; replenishment of accounts of the Ministry of Finance; crediting the SDR account with Romania’s share as a result of the entry into force of the new general SDR allocation by the IMF with a foreign currency date of August 23, 2021 (SDR 1.736 billion, approximately 2.1 trillion euro equivalent); replenishment of the European Commission’s account and others.
Also, outflows of 735 million euros took place, representing: the modification of the minimum foreign exchange reserves constituted by the credit institutions at the NBR; payments of installments and interest on account of public debt denominated in foreign currency and others.
The gold reserve level remained at 103.6 tons. Given the evolution of international prices, its value stood at 5.114 billion euros.
Romania’s international reserves (currencies plus gold) on August 31, 2021 were 46.730 billion euros, compared to 44.130 billion euros on July 31, 2021.
Payments due in September 2021 on account of public debt denominated in foreign currency, direct or guaranteed by the Ministry of Finance, amount to about 74 million euros.
