Kallianos: “My father was intubated for the eyes of the world” – 2024-05-01 16:10:55

Two 24 hours after the climax of their personal drama at their father’s funeral, Yiannis Kallianos and his brother declare that they are determined not to take a single step back.

They reiterate that they will initiate the procedures provided for, so that all those who were indifferent and made criminal mistakes in Attica hospitalto face their actions.

Intense reactions from doctors and the Ministry of Health

The reactions for one more day are continuous, with hospital doctors, the health minister and the Union of Vascular Surgeons of Greece defending all the choices made.

The vascular surgeon’s lawyer, named as Yannis Kallianos, again denied that his client took a “bag” and claimed that the ND MP sent threatening messages to the doctor from one point to another.

The doctors in Attiko refute all the complaints of the MP. They insist from the first moment that everything happened as defined by the relevant protocols.

A letter to the Prime Minister was sent by Union of Vascular Surgeons of Greecewith which he requests his intervention, to close the issue.

“The blatant, insulting bordering on humiliating and unethical treatment of workers in an Academic Public Hospital by a government MP contributes to the discredit of the National Health System which you are trying to support.”

The vascular surgeons emphasize that the noise caused by the complaint and the maintenance of the issue high in the news, do harm to the NHS, at a particularly critical time.

“It nullifies the presence of students in university clinics and the educational process, and leads citizens to lose their hard-won trust in the public health system during the recent health crisis”the letter states.

On the other hand Attica hospital and the doctors who took part in the hospitalization of Dimitris Kallianos repeat that there is neither indifference nor wrong handling in what they did.

The doctors argue that if they granted the request of Yannis Kallianos, for his father’s admission to the MAF when he requested it, they would make a serious mistake and it would constitute an impermissible, as it is characterized, discriminatory treatment.

The whole thing unfolds with Yiannis Kallianos and his brother trying to manage the pain of the loss, determined as they say not to let the case be forgotten by the passage of time.

The meteorologist and ND member of parliament insists that his father had to be admitted to the intensive care unit due to his deteriorating health and that his amputation should not have taken place in a simple hospital bed.

“All those making the announcements, no one was in my father’s room. Did any of them come? No. I want to say that I did not ask for any special treatment from the hospital.”

“My father went to the emergency room and waited 5 hours at a ranch. When my father was fading and collapsing I only asked if he was given the support he needed to survive. ICU or ICU without intubation. I did not ask for intubation,” he said.

Regarding the allegations that he sent threatening messages to doctors, Yiannis Kallianos denied them and clarified:

“What threatening messages was I sending? I was in a state of shock and panic. I kept texting the doctor saying “please, how do you tell me how is my father? After saturation went to 60.“He went out twice in front of me.”

He also stated that he never gave a “bag” to the doctors.

“My father was intubated for the public, for the eyes of the world,” he added.

As Yiannis Kallianos told MEGA, he will never forget the look on his mother’s face when he informed her of his father’s death.

“I didn’t know how to tell my mother. The phones started ringing and they were taking her to express their condolences. I was taking the mobile phone from her hand so she wouldn’t pick it up,” he said.
