Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE LIVE of the seventeenth stage of the Tour of Spain 2021. The Unquera-Lagos de Covadonga, di 185.8 chilometri, it will be the first of the two decisive fractions in view of the general classification as for the uphill struggle between the big names of this edition of the great Iberian stage race.
It will be a day without a moment’s respite, marked by quattro GPM. The first, at kilometer 37.3, will be the third category of the Alto de Hortigueru with his 5.3 kilometers at 4.7% average gradient. A quick descent, followed by an equally gentle climb, will bring the group to the GPM of first category of La Collada Llomena (km 87.9) with his 7.6 kilometers at 9.3%. It will be a real ramp that will be repeated one second time at kilometer 129.6, complete with bonus points. This GPM presents peaks of 14% in the middle of the ascent.
Here we will make a further and decisive difference that will be increased by the final climb to the finish line. The latter will be anticipated by Cangues d’Onis flying finish (km 163.5). And here we are then arrived at‘Ascesa di Lagos de Covadonga: a Special category GPM 12.5 kilometers long at 6.9%. At kilometer 6 of ascent they will touch each other peaks of 16%, while the final part that leads to the summit has a double ups and downs. A slightly rising goal.
The very first candidates of the day will, of course, be the three men who have looked the best so far, and we’re talking about Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), super favorite for a historic hat-trick in the roja jersey at the Vuelta a España, and the pair of Movistar format yes Enric Mas e Miguel Angel Lopez, that today they will be forced to attack.
