Merdeka.com – One doctor in Banyuwangi died on Tuesday (13/10) in the struggle against Covid-19. Banyuwangi Regent Abdullah Azwar Anas expressed his deepest condolences for the death of the doctor.
“We are all saddened by his death. This is a great loss, not only for the family, but also for Banyuwangi,” said Anas.

Anas said doctors, nurses and various health personnel had played a major role in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic, both promotive, preventive and curative.
“Let’s continue to apply health protocols so that we can pass the Covid-19 pandemic together well,” said Anas.
Anas also reminded all residents that transmission of this disease still occurs in the community.
“We also still see that this impact is not only on community groups. However, many health workers are also affected by this disease,” said Anas.
“We see that transmission is still occurring. So with our compliance with all government regulations related to Covid-19 control, we can reduce this number, we can reduce it,” continued Anas.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Banyuwangi Health Service, Dr. Widji Lestariono, explained that the doctor who died had been working at a health clinic in Banyuwangi.
“Indeed, there is a history of contact with a patient previously confirmed by Covid-19. The patient experiences symptoms such as fever, cough, shortness of breath, headache, nausea / vomiting. There is also pneumonia,” explained dr. Rio, his nickname.
After experiencing the symptoms of Covid-19, the person concerned went to one of the Covid-19 referral hospitals in Banyuwangi and was treated. The result of the swab was positive.
“The patient’s condition was aggravated because the deceased was also classified as obese,” said Rio.
As of today, cases of Covid-19 confirmation in Banyuwangi reached 1,526 people, with a cure rate reaching 1,203 people or nearly 79 percent. As many as 121 cases died alone. (mdk/hrs)
