news-figcaption">United States: Prabal Gurung opens its first flagship in New York – Prabul Gurung
The store is set on a rustic wood floor, with contemporary-style racks and shelves to accommodate Prabal Gurung’s designs. The display case is lit by an installation by Edward Ross, designed to mimic the sunrise and sunset in Nepal, the creator’s homeland. The general atmosphere: a mixture of the Nepalese heritage of Prabal Gurung and New York design.
“I have always dreamed of having my own store, I wanted to anchor my roots and my heritage there,” Prabal Gurung told the Vogue American. “Women will come to check out my glamorous sequin dresses, alongside slogan T-shirts and cashmere shawls from Nepal, where they are knitted mostly by women.” A percentage of the store’s sales will be donated to the Shikshya Foundation in Nepal, which the creator himself founded in 2011.
The “Love, Bleecker” project was started earlier this year by Brookfield, which set out to buy out empty street stores. Then Skylight joined the project to ensure the conservation of these points of sale by offering them to brands without flagship. Several events are planned in the neighborhood over the coming months.
