Nepalo-American designer Prabal Gurung has opened his very first flagship store at 367 Bleecker Street in New York City, in the West Village neighborhood. This inauguration is part of the “Love, Bleecker” project, which aims to rejuvenate this former district known for its fashion boutiques and encourage a new wave of designers to settle in the area. Prabal Gurung is the first designer to join the project.

The store is set on a rustic wood floor, with contemporary-style racks and shelves to accommodate Prabal Gurung’s designs. The display case is lit by an installation by Edward Ross, designed to mimic the sunrise and sunset in Nepal, the creator’s homeland. The general atmosphere: a mixture of the Nepalese heritage of Prabal Gurung and New York design.

“I have always dreamed of having my own store, I wanted to anchor my roots and my heritage there,” Prabal Gurung told the Vogue American. “Women will come to check out my glamorous sequin dresses, alongside slogan T-shirts and cashmere shawls from Nepal, where they are knitted mostly by women.” A percentage of the store’s sales will be donated to the Shikshya Foundation in Nepal, which the creator himself founded in 2011.

The “Love, Bleecker” project was started earlier this year by Brookfield, which set out to buy out empty street stores. Then Skylight joined the project to ensure the conservation of these points of sale by offering them to brands without flagship. Several events are planned in the neighborhood over the coming months.
