Povisa participates in a trial of Moderna’s flu vaccine

With more than 80 vaccinated volunteers, the Ribera Povisa hospital in Vigo is the hospital that has so far included the largest number of patients in all of Spain in the study evaluating the flu vaccine developed by Moderna with mRNA technology.

The hospital, which will continue testing until November 30, is one of six Spanish health centers selected to be part of this international trial involving 230 hospitals in the northern hemisphere, which will test around 23,000 patients.

As they indicate, the volunteer selection process will remain open until next 30, the date on which this phase 3 study will end, which has been approved by the Spanish Medicines and Healthcare Products Agency and whose objective is to verify the efficacy against the influenza of the new vaccine under development against the marketed conventional quadrivalent vaccine.

In phase 2, the safety of the dose has already been tested and it has been verified that it does not have serious side effects, as well as observing that the production of antibodies against influenza A is very potent.

Now, in Phase 3, efficacy in preventing influenza in the general population over the age of 50 will be evaluated.

After completing the over-55 quota in the first two weeks, the trial will now be limited to people age 65 and older who have not yet been vaccinated against the flu, who have not had the disease in six months earlier and that you have not received your dose against Covid-19 in the last four weeks. Volunteers cannot be allergic to vaccine components (including egg) or be treated with drugs that alter the immune response.
