Düsseldorf – For SC Paderborn, staying in the league in the Bundesliga remains a difficult task even after the Corona break.

In the direct duel at the third last Fortuna Düsseldorf, the bottom of the game did not go beyond a weak 0-0 and was very lucky not to concede the 18th loss in the 26th game of the season. Düsseldorf’s Valon Berisha alone was unlucky with two aluminum goals (17th minute and 66th). Paderborn also saved the post against substitute Steven Skrzybski (81 ‘).

Without the usual support of their fans in the ghost game, the Fortuna missed the opportunity to move on to nine points on Paderborn. With 23 points, the team of coach Uwe Rösler remains on the relegation rank. In contrast, Paderborn (17) continues to lose ground. Already on Sunday the gap to the non-relegation ranks could increase to eleven points. In the first game after a break of more than two months, the guests were far too harmless.

The Fortuna also did not really get into the game despite the sporting explosiveness of the game, but was the better of two weak teams and was unlucky especially at the end. It was the fifth draw for the hosts in the seventh game under coach Roesler. Next weekend in the derby at 1. FC Köln, this has to do without defense chief Kaan Ayhan, who saw the tenth yellow card.

The level of the game matched the bleak ambience. In the stadium, the calls and comments from the players and coaches remained the only background noise. Announcements by a stadium announcer, music or even intermediate scores from the other stadiums were dispensed with in Düsseldorf. The intensity of the game was commensurate with its importance in the fight against relegation. Fortuna seemed playfully better, Paderborn fought against it. Captain Uwe Hünemeier was back in the starting XI for the first time since the sixth matchday. The use of the 34-year-old veteran already paid off after 14 minutes when Hünemeier blocked a top opportunity for the free-standing Matthias Zimmermann.

From the beginning, Paderborn’s coach Baumgart was committed to the sidelines as usual. It almost seemed as if the guests could hardly wait to play Bundesliga football again. Already around ten minutes before the kick-off, the Paderborners were on the field and adjusted the ball. Rösler was also in his coaching zone for almost the entire game. Both trainers could do without their protective mask.

The pressure was particularly noticeable in the second round. Paderborn now attacked the guests higher and tried to build up pressure. However, the bottom of the table was too limited. Fortuna also had a hard time moving forward.

The game was quiet as expected. In the inner city of Düsseldorf it was much livelier and fuller before the game than around the arena next to the exhibition grounds on the Rhine. The only thing that caught the eye was the police cars that controlled the area.

In order to prevent crowds of people, the city of Düsseldorf had previously issued some regulations. Television broadcasts outside of restaurants are prohibited on weekdays between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. and on weekends between 3 p.m. and 6 a.m. In addition, the sale of take-away alcoholic beverages to kiosks and restaurants in the old town should be prohibited.
