Shots were fired this Sunday afternoon in Ghent. According to information from our colleagues from Het Laatste Nieuws, the police allegedly shot a woman after she stabbed two people. One of them was allegedly hit in the stomach. The police neutralized the woman by shooting her in the hand. If the Flemish media initially reported that the police had opened fire on a man, Het Laatste Nieuws said at the start of the evening that it was actually a woman.
A tent was set up by the police to treat the two injured.
The exact circumstances of the incident are still unclear. According to HLN, the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office refuses to communicate on the incident for the moment. According to De Nieuwsblad, the prosecutor nevertheless declared that an “investigation was under way” and that it was a “serious incident”.
