The Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MISPAS) reported this Wednesday four positive cases of diphtheria detected in Barahona, of which there was a deathtwo patients have been discharged and another remains hospitalized.
The announcement was made by the Vice Minister of Collective Health, doctor eladio perezwho explained that the four patients are Haitian and did not have vaccination.
In addition, he announced that the monkeypox vaccine is available in the country, acquired in coordination with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), which has arranged a stock of five thousand vaccines that will be applied to the population that requires it, from 18 years of age.

Eladio Pérez added that this immunological name “Jynneos of the Bavarian Nordic brand” represents a response mechanism for the disease, and will be applied in two doses that cover the patient for life.
“This is a traditional vaccine with very low adverse effects and it will be available to the population, although it will be applied in a prioritized manner, beginning with the Health personnel who work at the Ramón de Lara Hospital, where care has been given to patients confirmed with monkeypox, then proceed with a second group that are vulnerable or immunosuppressed people “he explained.
He said that for this vaccine, the investment is RD$$31, 67,324.20, through the Rotary fund. At the same time, he stated that at this moment there are no positive patients for this disease, however it is important to acquire immunization for the response it represents.
