Numbered Company in Drummondville Fined for Illegal Tree Felling Without Permit

Radio-Canada has learned that a numbered company in Drummondville has been fined for having had around a hundred trees cut down without a permit.

The alleged acts took place in recent weeks on land belonging to him located on avenue du Marais-Ombragé, in the Saint-Charles sector. This land includes four lots.

It was citizen observations that prompted municipal inspectors to go to the scene.

We are talking about illegal tree felling. As soon as we were informed of the situation, our field teams from the Urban Planning Department went to the site to, on the one hand, stop the felling of trees, and on the other hand, to check if a authorization permit had been issued. The observation is that the felling was carried out without a permit, underlines the director of communications for the City of Drummondville, Dominic Villeneuve.

The infringement notices facing the company currently amount to $2,000.

According to the City, others could however be issued after exhaustive analysis of the file.

Drummondville also reminds that a 20% forest cover must be preserved in any new project under the Municipal Climate Change Adaptation Plan and its Tree Policy.

Without commenting on this specific case, the Regional Environmental Council of Centre-du-Québec is sending this message to all citizens and developers.

We encourage all businesses to have the required permits and to comply with local laws, even provincial ones, regarding the protection of forest cover and wetlands.

The numbered company 9431-1016 Québec inc. refused Radio-Canada’s interview request, specifying that four buildings of 23 housing units could soon be erected on its land.
