Covesia.com – Telegram added a group voice chat feature, where voice chat is now no longer part of text chat, but operates as a permanent option to talk directly with friends or family.
“Today, Telegram groups are getting a new dimension with Voice Chat – persistent conference calls that members can follow and leave as they please,” Telegram explained on its official website quoted on Thursday (24/12/2020).
Voice chat works in parallel with existing text by adding a short conversation layer directly to the group. Telegram says the feature can be used as a virtual office space for a team or an informal space for a community.
While not a group call, voice chat is said to serve the same purpose, while at the same time offering flexibility.
Groups with active voice chat have a special bar at the top that shows who’s talking. This can help users choose the perfect moment to join.
After joining voice chat, users remain free to switch applications, browse conversations, and send messages.
The user remains connected to voice chat and the microphone controls remain on the screen so they can quickly mute or record voice.
For Android users, the voice chat feature will appear with a floating widget that shows the microphone control who is talking, even when leaving the Telegram application.
Voice chat can accommodate thousands of participants. To create voice chat and find a unique way to use it, admins can open the group profile, then tap (⋯) or (⋮) and select “Start Voice Chat.”
“Like previous Telegram groups, we hope Voice Chat will change the way people collaborate and stay in touch. In the coming weeks, we will further refine it, listen to your feedback, improve noise cancellation and add more features such as video and screen sharing,” said Telegram.
