Governor Kathy Hohcul yesterday signed a new public health law that cracks down on tobacco sales in New York State.
The legislation seeks to make cigarettes and tobacco products less accessible by prohibiting their sale at stands, vending machines and in buildings in New York state.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States.
Tobacco causes the death of more than 480 thousand people every year.
