It’s good that the judges in Münster gave such a harsh judgment. It should be an approach for the investigators.

Sure: some would have wished for even more drastic penalties. But the judgments that the judges pronounced in the abuse trial in Münster are close to the limits of what the criminal code allows: the punishments for the four accused, especially for the main perpetrator, are harsh and fair. They are also a success for the rule of law. Unfortunately, the police could not prevent the heinous acts, but with the concentrated investigations that have been going on for some time in NRW against the perverse child pornography scene, the martyrdom of the children could at least be stopped. And the established evidence has resulted in just punishment. But it is almost even more important that preventive detention was also ordered. These men will not be free for a very long time, maybe never.
And that, in turn, is a victory for the children, who were abused in such an unbearable way: the pedophile perpetrators put a huge mortgage on them. But the children now have the certainty that they are protected from their tormentors. And that they can shape their lives.
Unfortunately, the ruling will not have such a deterrent effect that it will stop abuse and child pornography altogether. But it is a confirmation for the investigators: Carry on!
