Kensington Palace Can’t be Trusted After Kate Middleton Photo Fiasco: AFP News Agency

March 14, 2024

Public faith in the royal family has seemingly been dwindling ever since a doctored photo of Kate Middleton smiling alongside her children was released on Sunday for the UK’s Mother’s Day.

The snapshot featured the Princess of Wales, 42, and her kids Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. Although many royal photos go viral for positive reasons, this one made headlines for Photoshop mistakes.

AFP Questions Kensington Palace’s Credibility

After the photo was removed from several news agencies due to its obvious editing, the AFP news agency has claimed that Kensington Palace cannot be a “trusted source” of information. Phil Chetwynd, the global news director of Agence France-Presse (AFP), weighed in on the issue and stated that the royal residence is “absolutely not” reliable.

Chetwynd explained that the manipulated photo raised “major issues” and violated the AFP’s rules. He emphasized the importance of trust in institutions and criticized the falling public trust in the media.

Manipulated Image Sparks Controversy

The manipulated photo of Middleton and her children has sparked controversy and questions about the authenticity of images released by the royal family. The photo received kill notices from press outlets after it was discovered that the image had been manipulated.

Agencies requested the original image from Kensington Palace, but it was refused. This refusal raised further doubts about the credibility of the royal residence.

Princess Middleton Apologizes

Following the photo editing controversy, Middleton issued an apology for the confusion caused by the family photograph. She stated that, like many amateur photographers, she occasionally experiments with editing and expressed her apologies for any confusion the photo may have caused.

As the public’s trust in the royal family continues to decline, this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and authenticity in the media.
