Series Josephine, Guardian Angel recounts the adventures of Joséphine Delamarre (Mimie Mathy), a guardian angel sent to earth to help a different person with each new episode and solve their problems. Fiction has been around for nearly twenty-four years and has occasionally created controversy. Back on five scandals that have splashed Josephine, Guardian Angel.
1. When Mimie Mathy breaks a taboo and reveals her salary
In an interview for TV Magazine in October 2013, Mimie Mathy confirms that she earns € 250,000 per episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel. She specifies in passing that she agreed to lower her stamp ” so that Josephine continue for at least another year “. It did not take more for the information to go around the web and for such a sum of money to shock some. A few days later, this time in an interview with the Buzz TV-Orange-TV Magazine, the actress is explained following the controversy generated by the revelation of her high salary.

2. When Nicolas Dupont-Aignan uses the series to support his ideas
On December 6, 2017, NT1 broadcast an episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel in which a young woman becomes a surrogate mother for a sterile couple. Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, president of Debout la France, is obviously one of the viewers present in front of their screen that evening since he writes on his Twitter account: “Very moving episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel on the monstrosity of the treatment of surrogate mothers. New slavery of women! ” This is neither more nor less than a way for him to recall his opposition to surrogacy (Surrogacy).
Or, Mimie Mathy does not appreciate that Nicolas Dupont-Aignan uses his series to disseminate his ideas. The actress then reacts through her Twitter account. ” Help ! I discovered with amazement that Nicolas Dupont-Aignan relies on an episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel to tweet about the problem of surrogate mothers. I do not in any way want to be associated with this politician capable of making a pact with the National Front at the time of the presidential elections. 3. When an episode on slavery causes a scandal
August 26, 2019 TF1 offers an unprecedented double episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel to its viewers. Entitled Finally Free, he follows our heroine in Martinique in the 1830s when she comes to the aid of Clémence, a young woman in search of her origins. Once on the island, Joséphine indulges in a few comments such as ” It is Koh-Lanta or what ? ” when she sees two slaves pursued by dogs. This does not pass with Internet users, who denounce the lightness of the series to deal with such a serious subject.
The other aspect of this episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel that does not appeal to viewers is the idea of the “white savior”. This is a « persistent historiography ” who “Tends to give the impression that blacks have passively witnessed their own history, while waiting for whites to come and free them from their condition of slavery”, denounces the Representative Council of Black Associations in France (CRAN) in a press release. This is one of the biggest scandals in French series to date, having caused a stir on social networks.

4. When Mimie Mathy makes comments about rape that shock Internet users
While Mimie Mathy is a guest on the show Daily sure TMC, on March 2, 2020, the presenter Yann Barthès asks him to comment on the nomination for the César of the film J’accuse by Roman Polanski. The actress first gets a joke at a footage showing Adèle Haenel leaving the ceremony room at the moment of the director’s victory. “Did she want to go to the bathroom?” ” let go of the star Josephine, Guardian Angel. If this joke was considered clumsy given the subject, it is especially his comments on rape that scandalized viewers.

5. When the description considered racist of an episode is controversial on Twitter
Le 31 mai 2020, TF1 rebroadcast an episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel entitled Yasmina, dating from 2012. The synopsis proposed by the channel is as follows: “Joséphine comes to the aid of Yasmina, a young North African who dreams of joining Privéla, a large cosmetics company. But the profile of Yasmina, an Arab from the suburbs, does not quite match that of the other candidates, from high schools and good families. So Yasmina begins to lie about her origins. “
The use of the term “beurette”, considered racist and misogynist, scandalizes Internet users on Twitter. The latter then launched the hashtags # TF1Raciste and #JeNeSuisPasUneBeurette to denounce the channel’s contempt for women of North African origin. Following the controversy, TF1 removes from its replay the episode of Josephine, Guardian Angel containing the famous description.
