Italy recommends applying the fifth dose of Covid-19 vaccine

This new indication is determined by the “current epidemiological context which presents an increase in the circulation of the virus contextual to the increase in the transmissibility rate above the epidemic threshold”, indicates the document.

According to this circular, the additional dose of the vaccine adapted to combat the BA.1 and BA.4-5 variants should be applied to people over the age of 80, as well as those people aged 60 and over “who present fragility caused by concomitant and pre-existing pathologies.

Those who have already received the second booster, or the fourth dose, after at least three months from the last vaccine administration, or with a positive test for the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus, can be vaccinated.

It also includes all those over 60 years of age who have already received a fourth dose with a monovalent vaccine, who will be able to access the fifth bivalent dose at the request of the interested party, 120 days after the previous injection.

The aim, the guide emphasizes, is “to achieve greater consolidation of the protection conferred by vaccines against severe forms of Covid-19, in compliance with the principle of maximum precaution”.

The Italian Ministry of Health today reported 58,000 360 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, a figure much higher than the 13,000 439 reported in the previous daily part, but less than the 65,000 925 registered on Tuesday last week.

329,569 tests were performed, and the positivity rate was 17.7 percent, higher than that revealed in Monday’s report, where after just 84,220 tests, it reached 16.0 percent.

The number of active infected people is currently 543,207, of which 6,993 hospitalized in ordinary wards and 254 in intensive care in hospitals, and another 535,960 are kept in home isolation.

One of the data that most alarms specialists is the increase in deaths, which went from 93 to 113 on this last day, to reach 178,194 since the beginning of the pandemic in January 2020.

The total number of infected people in this country since that date, with almost 60 million inhabitants, rises to 23 million 172 thousand 370, of which 22 million 450 thousand 969 have managed to overcome the disease.
