Italy recommends applying the fifth dose of Covid-19 vaccine

This new indication is determined by the “current epidemiological context which presents an increase in the circulation of the virus contextual to the increase in the transmissibility rate above the epidemic threshold”, indicates the document.

According to this circular, the additional dose of the vaccine adapted to combat the BA.1 and BA.4-5 variants should be applied to people over the age of 80, as well as those people aged 60 and over “who present fragility caused by concomitant and pre-existing pathologies.

Those who have already received the second booster, or the fourth dose, after at least three months from the last vaccine administration, or with a positive test for the Sars-Cov-2 coronavirus, can be vaccinated.

It also includes all those over 60 years of age who have already received a fourth dose with a monovalent vaccine, who will be able to access the fifth bivalent dose at the request of the interested party, 120 days after the previous injection.

The aim, the guide emphasizes, is “to achieve greater consolidation of the protection conferred by vaccines against severe forms of Covid-19, in compliance with the principle of maximum precaution”.
