Have there been any contacts?
Yes. Thrice ! In spring 88, especially. President Jean Wauters contacted me directly and there was almost an agreement but it was dragging on and I, who am anything but patient, ended up signing in Kortrijk and Standard took Urbain Braems. I may have been too rushed but that’s how it was… I was called twice more afterwards: in 2013 and in 2017. But it was only through intermediaries, without having direct contact with the club. So I don’t know what it was really like. The fact remains that they then hired Guy Luzon then Ricardo Sa Pinto.
